Specialists from the University of Michigan presented a new development - a miniature computer system that allows you to measure eye pressure (this system was created for patients with glaucoma). This news does not sound very interesting, but the development is really unique - the system is only one cubic millimeter in size, includes a processor, battery, photocell, memory, pressure sensor, wireless communication module with antenna. It all sounds like the system is a regular PC with additional modules, although in reality it is a miniature millimeter-sized chip.
The developers hope that their system is just the first step taken towards the development of miniature chips that will allow monitoring the status of various organs in real time. Scientists believe that, thanks to such a small size, the chips can be used to monitor the state of the environment, the building, the human body, and perform a wide range of other tasks.

The authors announced their development of a new class of miniature computer equipment, which can work in many areas, including weapons, construction and many others. By the way, not only the miniature system is innovative, but also the processor, which consumes only 5.3 nanowatts.
To fully charge the battery of the presented system, it is enough to spend 10 hours in a lighted room or 1.5 hours outside on a sunny day. The chip measures every 15 minutes.
According to the developers, commercial use of such a system will be possible within a few years. How much the development cost and why all this cannot be used now, the authors do not report.
