About the relevance of experience. The story of morality

I want to tell an instructive story.
A man works with me, who immediately after university came to our company.
At first it was a small Israeli startup, then a large American company bought it.
A man in the company grew up, led the department. So it took 12 years and the man decided to change jobs.
And suddenly it turned out that nobody needs it.
Why?
The fact is that in our company we have invented our own language, object-oriented. And even made it the standard (IEEE) in the field of testing the design of chips.
The language turned out to be successful and began to write my software on it.
So this man, almost all the time, these 12 years, wrote in this our language. (Except for this - in C ++ and Perl, but a bit.)

He considered this: language is not important. It is important to understand the design, the ability to write code.
When looking for work, it turned out that he was wrong. Everywhere you need a specialist (or head of department) in C ++ or Java, or something else, and not just a person who can write code.
Moreover, with his experience, he was looking for a place of interest and salary corresponding to 12-13 years of experience.

The man made conclusions, left the management of the department, he asked for just a programmer in a new project.
Half a year has passed since he first saw Java and he is already very cool in language (generics “feels” better than me, with my 12 years of experience in Java) and the library (Spring, Hibernate). Those. in principle, objectively, he was right that the language is not important, he showed that his experience as a whole was relevant and the man in general was smart and cool.

But for job search language, technologies, frameworks, keywords are important.
When I was looking for a job, I was often called by secretary girls and asked “EJB - how many years of experience? Servlets - how old? etc. ”- without understanding these words. And if the answer was few years old - they did not call for an interview.
')
Be aware of what is needed in the job market - and you will be lucky.
