Registrars who pre-sell Russian .RU domains may start a refund. The Board of the Coordination Center of the RU domain made the
final decision on this matter.
Already in early 2008,
ICANN plans to introduce domains with national alphabets , including the possible emergence of a domain zone
.RU (or .), which is why the introduction of Cyrillic characters in the zone .RU becomes irrelevant.
At the meeting of the registrars committee of the Coordination Center, which took place in March of this year, most of the registrars
opposed the launch of Russian-language domains in the RU domain, suggesting that the RF domain appear. Their call and followed the board of the Coordination Center.
Andrei Romanov, director of the Coordination Center of the RU domain, at the RELARN 2007 conference during the round-table discussion “Addressing on the Internet: recent trends, main problems and prospects for solving them” called the decision made more logical. In addition, for users, fully Russian-language domains (taking into account the end of the Russian Federation) are more convenient, since when typing such domain names, no keyboard layout switch is required.
