Ruby, ROR: Habrahabr and others

I noticed that lately many articles on Ruby and Rails began to appear on the habrahabr. I am very pleased with this, as Ruby has recently been fascinated by rails. But I want to clarify something.

1) In the internet there are lots of articles that compare rails, php, python and others. At the same time, it usually looks like this: “people, look at some cool rails! do not write on pkhp, because it can be done on rails 10 times faster! ”. Let's not confuse warm with soft and do not compare the 5th point with a finger. Php, pearl, python - programming languages. Rails - framework. It would be fair to compare ruby and pkhp, ruby and python and so on. Or CakePHP and RoR, Django and RoR. I think everyone understands this, but let's filter such “non-comparisons”.
I am pleased with my first experience with the rails, but such an advertisement starts to alarm me.

2) Many say that ruby is very good as a first language. Undoubtedly, the language is much more beautiful than php, si, lighter than pearl, in some things even better than python. But. I believe that the first language should be strictly typed. Imagine you in the 5th grade showed pkhp, and in the 10th they put on si. I think you either hang yourself or just come back to php. Secondly, the blocks. Personally, I managed to understand them only from the third time. In this case, I am not a novice. IMHO, let everything remain as old as-as-s-sipp-and then wherever the soul wishes.

PS I'm going to captivate my younger brother with programming, so I hope for comments on the 2nd point.
