Higher education, non-representative sample

The topic of education in Russia does not give me rest. I will give a little story from personal experience. I do not pretend to objectivity, therefore I named the topic accordingly.

So, 6 years ago, I was actively interested in everything related to computers, and therefore I had only one option as a future programmer - a programmer. Finishing grade 11 in the local high school, I was faced with the problem of choosing a faculty. Yes, yes, it is the faculty, since we have one de facto university in Saransk.

“Faculties for programmers” I counted two - this is Matfak and FET . When I entered matfak, my new classmates and I listened to the dean's fiery speech that we all made the right choice, if only because the current graduates of the matfak even banks offer jobs for 15,000 rubles a month (yes, this is good money considering time - 6 years ago, the city - Saransk and age - 22 years at the time of graduation, plus a lack of experience).

What happened in the end - from my group one person works as a programmer, two opened the CISCO network academy, but I switched to freelancing, where I started working from the third year. The listed people had marks, well, let's say, far from a higher scholarship.

')

But a good half of the other graduates are still unemployed. And all of them are pretty smart guys, but as for me - they have become a victim of the modern education system. No joke, one of them works as a taxi driver.

My conclusion from this story is this: if you want to settle down normally in life, then you shouldn’t hope for a higher education. Quite the contrary, it is better to completely (or as far as possible, not to be expelled) transfer their efforts from higher education to self-education, the benefit with the advent of the Internet, even in deep Mordovian forests, there are no more problems with this.

I have no doubt that there are probably excellent universities in Russia and excellent specializations, but in this particular case, it is clearly not about them, alas.
