Google expands Google Social Search initiative

Yesterday, the corporation officially announced that the Google Social Search initiative, presented back in 2009, has now been significantly expanded. So, the search results will now show posts of friends from various social networks, including Twitter, Flickr, Blogger. Of course, such additional information will not be displayed in any form, but only if the posts of friends include information relevant to the user's request.

At the same time, such information will not be shown at the bottom of the search results, but together with other results shown on request. As an example, a situation where someone is looking for a suitable place for camping. The results of the issue will also show information from various accounts of the user's friends in social networks - well, for example, someone from friends posted photos of the campsite, or a map for the tourist, or something like that. In the screenshot in the announcement you can see that on the request for “climbing kilimangaro”, along with other information, a link to Matt Kats’s blog is displayed - he is a colleague to the developer who entered the request.

“Relevance is now not only for pages, but also for relationships,” said Mike Cassidy, head of product management at Google. The developers claim that the new feature allows you to get more information from your own colleagues, friends and acquaintances. It is worth noting that the social search function will only work for users who have a Google account.

Of course, you can disable the new feature, if it is not needed, management is performed in the settings of your Google account. And one more thing - so far all this works only for the English-speaking segment of the Network, as soon as the social search function becomes available for all others, it is not yet known. Interestingly, the information from Facebook will not be displayed - yes this is understandable, since the “informational” conflict between Google and Facebook is still not forgotten.
