About a month ago a
strange study was published, from which it followed that the 100 most active users generate 66% of all downloads and 75% of all downloads from torrents, and they do it for financial gain.
Naturally, this study caused a lot of questions, so that its authors
were found and interrogated , that is, they were interviewed. It turns out that this is not some kind of delusional research, but a serious scientific project, on which scientists from Spain, Germany and the USA have been working for six months already. They analyzed 50,000 torrents from Pirate Bay and Mininova trackers.
It turns out that there we are not talking about traffic, but about the number of torrent files. That is, with hundreds of the most active accounts of Pirate Bay and Mininova (individuals and groups), 66% of the original files are laid out in P2P networks, on which a based part of the traffic is generated (as indicated, 75% of downloads). These people can be considered such “professional pirates”. In Russia, there are such people as well (
Novafilm ,
Lostfilm ) and they are engaged in, among other things, the illegal sounding of various serials, after which they upload files to Rutracker.org and their own trackers.
Information that "professional pirates" work to their advantage, is also quite reliable. As stated in the study, they embed in the video or in the attached txt-files links to their sites. These sites are advertising or selling paid accounts, or donations are accepted. Of course, this is a relatively small profit.

Interestingly, as a result of studying the IP addresses and accounts of the most active siders, a number of users were discovered who distribute only fake content, including pornos and malware. According to researchers, some of these people are full-time employees of media corporations and receive money for their activities.
