HP Tablet and Smartphone on WebOS: Video from MWC-2011
HP did not report its new products to the MWC - everything spilled on the way. The company held a presentation of two new smartphones and a tablet on the webOS platform a little less than a week ago. And at the congress, these new items could, if not touch them (HP representatives gave their gadgets with great reluctance and immediately picked them up), then at least see with their own eyes. And it was worth seeing them: after the annoying Android and iOS, the new versions of the webOS platform are just a breath of fresh air.
Most of all webOS is similar to Apple's mobile OS - but not with logic and design (although there is something in common in the design), but ... Pavel Kushelev said very well: “I want to lick.” Very beautiful, smooth and, at first glance, user-friendly interface.

The webOS version for tablets is not much different from the smartphone version (HP representatives believe that it is important to preserve the “common user experience” for these two types of devices) - and this also unites the webOS with iOS. I really liked the “Just type ...” system: you start typing some characters from the keyboard - you immediately find yourself in the list of matches (and the search is conducted everywhere: from applications to contacts and SMS). You scroll down this list - the on-screen buttons for “quick actions” appear: click, for example, “Create Note” and continue to enter the same text in another application.
webOS is “sharpened” for Internet services: access to all the most popular devices is provided initially; synchronization of data with external accounts is supported, and the system is able to find matches and “collect” them into one contact card. Multitasking is supported - thumbnails of running applications are located on the screen in standby mode. Additional applications can be downloaded from the online catalog - in general, the complete equivalent of the App Store or Android Market. The software in it, of course, is smaller (about 7,000 pieces, among them both paid and free) - but Angry Birds is already there.
In short, be sure to watch the video - we fixed all the most important webOS chips for you.
And by themselves, the gadgets are very nice. First of all, they somehow stand out against dozens of absolutely identical “sensory devices”, and secondly, the design is very intelligent and “purebred” (Palm, indeed!) I want to.
Alas, while each of these three is another cool gadget that you can ask to bring from the States. They say that in Russia they are not going to sell them at all. Or going - but sometime in the very distant future. It's a shame.
