ICANN may cancel a “trial period” during registration

The ICANN Committee ALAC, which advises the ICANN board of directors and working groups on ICANN’s overall activities, held a round table on the domain tasting; AGP.

The “domain tasting” option, harmless at first sight, has become a new source of profit for network entrepreneurs. The five-day grace period Add Grace Period (AGP) was originally invented in order to avoid erroneous registrations. But automated cybersquatting software specifically uses this feature to scroll through several million domains for free through AGP and earn big money on it. The problem is described in detail here .

Now ICANN has taken the first step towards changing the registration rules.

During the round table, the representatives of the ICANN ALAC committee announced that they had initiated the procedure for changing the rules of ICANN. The first step in this process is a request for a PDP (Policy Development Process) application.

During the event, many demonstrations on the vicious practice of “domain tasting” were shown. Representatives of registrars shared their experiences on how each of them is trying to solve this problem in their own countries.
