Optimus 3D smartphone and Optimus Pad tablet: a preliminary review of LG's new products at MWC-2011

From 3D, not to hide and not to hide - the entire past year, it cursed, climbed to us from the TV, and this year it has even swiped from smartphones. A new trend of “mobile 3D” was printed out by Koreans from LG, introducing the Optimus 3D Android-smartphone with an auto-stereoscopic display (for a moment - almost the most impressive gadget of the exhibition) and the Optimus Pad tablet for MWC.

In discussions of rumors about the LG 3D smartphone, the question was often asked: “Do you have to look at him through glasses?” No, glasses will not be needed - the screen at the gadget is autostereoscopic. Moreover, it was made using some very cool technology: the 3D effect manifests itself even if you look at the screen at an angle (although, of course, you will have three dimensions at most, 30-40 centimeters from your eyes) .

Optimus 3D does not work in 3D mode all the time, but only in some applications (for example, the 3D content gallery) and games (I really liked the 3D version of the Nova mobile shooter). The screen in 3D mode is noticeably darker, and the picture on it is more granular, but this is in the order of things. But the coolest - using a smartphone, you can not only use 3D-content (by the way, 3D-video gadget “pulls” with resolution up to 720p), but also create it - it has two built-in cameras. By the way, specifically for Optimus 3D, YouTube launched a channel with 3D video.

The first unpleasant moment is that the eyes of the “three-dimensionality” of the new Optimus are very uncomfortable, especially when you switch from 3D to 2D (not only does the eye muscles literally reduce the tension, so the “jump” of brightness also hits the eyes). However, LG honestly warned: do not abuse, is fraught with deterioration of vision. And this smartphone is not recommended for children under five years.

The second trouble is in 3D mode, when the mighty dual-core stuffing of the smartphone is working at full capacity, the battery charge level is literally melting before our eyes (on the stand where the gadget was shown, “off”) were half of all Optimus 3D samples - while working offline mode).

LG enters the tablet market by working hard with its elbows. At the Optimus Pad presentation, for example, journalists almost straightforwardly stated that all the tablets of the competitors are a complete mess: they are not the same size, weight, or the screen is not with the aspect ratio. But Optimus Pad is the most optimal one. 8.9 '' he has a screen, 630 g it weighs. Inside - NVIDIA Tegra 2 and, of course, Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

A very sound approach, however, at the end of LG, apparently, they could not resist and for some reason inserted a stereo camera into their new tablet - well, that is, two cameras for recording 3D video and shooting 3D photos. Well, a very dubious chip, especially since you can view this content on the tablet screen only by looking at it through special glasses (thanks at least - passive, not active).
