New addition to Google Maps on Android 2.x will solve the problem of finding parking
A new addition to Google Maps - Open Spot, which is now in test mode, will allow owners of smartphones with Android 2.x operating systems to quickly find parking places. Open Spot will help motorists save a lot of time and gas and avoid unnecessary driving around the neighborhood in search of a place to park.
This program is an addition to Google Maps. Open Spot puts a mark on the map, similar to a pinhead. Marks in red denote newly vacated parking spaces, orange marks for empty seats for more than five minutes, and yellow marks available for ten minutes or more. Marks for parking places, empty for more than twenty minutes, are automatically removed from the map. This last action is due to the fact that in urban areas parking places are usually not empty for so long.

For the normal functioning of the system requires the participation of users. They will provide the system with information about whether a parking space is occupied or has just been vacated. In addition, the developers provide the opportunity to report on the free space, by which you pass. It is planned that the user will be able to see parking places within a 1.5 km radius.
So far this innovation is just an experiment, and its implementation is limited to the USA, Canada and the Netherlands. But as soon as developers fix some technical problems, the program will become more widespread. You can download the Open Spot application now at openspot.googlelabs.com
