FPse for android - the first release of the new PlayStation emulator

The first release of the FpseCE port on the Android platform took place. I must say that the emulator waited. The only (until today, of course) PSOne emulator called Psx4droid did not indulge in speed even on the most expensive smartphones. What does FPse for android offer us? Features under the cut.

To begin with, what the developer promises us:

• High speed
• Excellent compatibility
• High sound quality
• Saving at any time of the game
• Audio track emulation (using .cue files)
• Vibration feedback support (who doesn't remember - the PSone joystick had one)
• Virtual joystick skin support
• Support for analog sticks (you just need to drive across the screen, not along the keys)
• Support accelerometer and hardware keys of the smartphone
• The .img .iso .bin .cue .ngr and .Z image formats are supported.

What do we actually have? In fact, alas, all is not so rosy. First, the emulator requires an Android version of Froyo (for example, the same Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 with not bad hardware running Android Eclair). Secondly, the emulation speed of both the gameplay and the sound is far from perfect. In some ways, the emulator does noticeably bypass the Psx4droid, but alas - the brakes are often found (tested on Acer Liquid, it should be better on modern smartphones). Also, the emulator refuses to work with processors based on ARMv5-6 (for example, LG Optimus, LG Optimus One, Sony Ericsson X8, HTC Legend). The author promises to correct this misstep soon. The emulator works without the original prefix Bios, but with the advent of such a speed increases (and also often compatibility).

The rest is nice appearance of alternatives, and if the emulator will be brought to mind, the owners of smartphones running Android will be able to get an excellent library of PSone games.
