Sony has received permission to examine information on the hard disk from a PC hacker GeoHot

Yes, yes, Sony got official permission yesterday to access the hard drive seized from the notorious George Hotz (GeoHot), a hacker who hacked into the PS3 protection and put the root key for the PlayStation 3 on the Network. As far as is known, he collaborated with hackers of the Fail0verflow group , which, in fact, started all this jailbreak for PS3, announcing the breaking of PS3 at the 27th Chaos Communication Congress 2010. Naturally, Sony didn’t like the cracking of the game console’s defense, followed by going to court and removing the equipment Hotz worked on, including its working PC.

US District Judge Susan Illston allowed Sony representatives to study the information contained on the hard drive from the hacker's PC. However, this right is limited - the corporations have the right to study only those files that are really related to cracking PS3. That's just not quite clear who will monitor whether the study is carried out the contents of the hard disk. Really, won't the bailiff stand behind the back of Sony technical workers and beat them with a ruler every time they start to learn something that is not allowed by the court?

But it may well be that the hard disk from the hacker’s PC can contain any information about the members of the Fail0verflow group with whom Hotz collaborated. Of course, this is hardly true, but the likelihood of this exists, and all this information can fall into the hands of the corporation, and then somehow accidentally “emerge”. And Sony's management was outright joking - the corporation even demanded on Twitter and Google the names, passwords, and turnout information of users who are considered members of the Fail0verflow group.

Fortunately, Twitter and Google follow the principles of privacy and refused to cooperate with Sony on this issue. Generally speaking, it is very similar to what Sony presented believe in the possibility of eliminating a jailbreak from the Web, no matter how ridiculous it may sound.
