Colleagues, I have very good news for you today. The public beta of the second version of the great free virtualization platform Proxmox VE was released. If earlier Proxmox (version 1.x) could compete with VMware when used in small companies, today it has swung at least at the middle ones.
What is Proxmox?
- This is a free virtualization platform (Open Source, GNU AGPL v3)
- This is
the KISS principle (Proxmox consists of a small number of transparently interacting components: Debian as the basis, the patched Linux kernel, KVM and the Proxmox environment, which includes a web interface, a synchronization daemon and console management utilities)
- This is a simple installation.
- This is a convenient and functional Web-interface (without the need to install the client)
- This is reliability
- This is the ability to use existing Linux administration skills, without the need for retraining
- This is the ability to take advantage of Linux, which may not be provided by the Proxmox VE web interface (for example, DRBD)

What's new in Proxmox VE 2.0
(in beta, not all of the above has been reazed)
')
* New interface (rewritten from scratch)
** New Web-based interface based on Ext JS 4 JavaScript framework)
** Support external VNC client using SSL
** Enhanced rights management for all objects (virtual machines, storage, etc.)
** Support for various types of authentication (local, MS ADS, LDAP, ...)
* Debian 6.0 Squeeze with LTS kernel 2.6.32 is used as the base distribution (KVM and OpenVZ support)
* Clustering is now corosync based and includes:
** Proxmox Cluster file system (pmxcfs): file system used to store and synchronize configuration files between all nodes
** Now all nodes can be masters at the same time (multi-master clusters)
** General logs for the entire cluster
** Everything is available for HA (high availability) when using KVM
* RESTful web API
* Starting from this version (2.0), development is carried out completely openly, i.e. open source repositories and bug tracker
* Project code licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3
* Scheduled for future releases.
** Improved monitoring
** Expanded IO limits for virtual machines
** Expansion of the list of pre-built templates for various systems
This version is not yet ready for production, use Proxmox VE 1.9. If you are already familiar with Proxmox VE and want to take part in testing, feel free to download Proxmox VE 2.0.
