In general, Hotfile has long been trying to “sue” in some way or another - after all, such resources are like a thorn in the face of a copywriter. But until now there were individual cases, trial attempts to get close to the site owner, but now everything has changed - a joint lawsuit against Anton Titov (this person, according to the prosecution, is the owner of the file sharing service) was filed by such large companies as Disney Enterprises, Warner Bros ., Universal City Studios Productions, Columbia Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox. The purpose of the claim is to force Titov to pay, for this the usual wording “damages” is used.
If the lawsuit passes, then Anton Titov will have to urgently look for 26.1 million dollars, since all in all the lawsuit concerns 174 cases of illegal distribution of content for films, TV shows and other content. The rightholders believe that each film or TV show laid out on the Hotfile is “pulled” by 150 thousand dollars. Thus, the total amount of the claim is 26.1 million dollars.
According to the right holders, Hotfile violates the law not only through the illegal distribution of content, but also by the fact that the owner of the resource earns it. The scheme is simple - either free download of content via an artificially narrow channel, or fast download by purchasing a paid account.

It should be noted that Hotfile is one of the largest and most popular resources of this kind. If rightholders really can somehow punish the owner, or, for example, try to cancel a domain delegation, it will be possible to announce the end of the file sharing era. But not so long ago, claims were made against Rapidshare, the administration of which is now trying to ensure that illegal content does not get to the resource server (but so far monitoring is more formal, still a lot of pirated content falls on the resource).
Of course, it is hard to believe that right holders can really do something, but such a large lobby of Hollywood companies really has ample opportunities, so some probability of copying “damage” does not exist.
