Microsoft and Nokia announce strategic collaboration
What the rumored Internet has been about the last week has been the news of the day: Microsoft and Nokia are announcing a strategic partnership in the mobile market.
A press release posted on the Microsoft website states the following key components of the agreement:
companies are merging to create a new global mobile ecosystem;
Nokia will switch to Windows Phone as the principal mobile strategy (principal smartphone strategy) by adding its innovations to the platform, for example, in the field of cameras, where Nokia is the industry leader;
Nokia will help develop the future Windows Phone platform, the company will invest in the platform its experience in the design of the hardware component, language support and help move the platform to other price levels, market segments and countries;
Nokia and Microsoft will closely collaborate on joint initiatives to promote the platform, share a common vision for the future of the platform and join forces to implement the evolution of mobile products;
Bing will be the basis of Nokia search in all devices and services of the company, Microsoft adCenter will be the basis of the advertising service;
Nokia Maps will become the main part (a core part) of Microsoft map services, for example, Maps will be integrated with Bing and the adCenter advertising platform;
Nokia's agreements with operators will simplify the purchase of Windows Phone in markets where credit cards are not very common;
Microsoft application development tools will be used to create applications for Nokia Windows Phone devices;
Nokia’s content and application store will be integrated with the Windows Phone Marketplace.
