Toshiba and Royal Opera House have begun work on a joint project - Toshiba received exclusive rights to demonstrate the latest production of the opera “Carmen” directed by Francesca Zambello.
The production, which became a hit in London theater circles, was decided to be filmed on a 3D video, and released in theaters and on home viewing media. Spectators will not just get the opportunity to see traditionally theatrical performances in ordinary cinemas and at home - they will be provided with the effect of a real presence in the theater ground.
This unique project was made possible through the joint efforts of Toshiba and RealID. The companies announced their cooperation in the direction of consumer electronics back in January 2010. Since then, they have worked together to integrate the RealID stereoscopic format into 3D — the Toshiba Regza panels, and the accompanying 3D glasses, also used in 3D cinemas.
C March 5, the cinema will begin renting "Carmen" in cinemas equipped with RealID technology and 3D - Toshiba technologies.
In addition, Toshiba received exclusive rights to demonstrate the opera on plasma 3D panels, and a promotion will be launched, under which buyers of Toshiba products with 3D options will receive a gift copy of the famous opera on the disc.

“Opera“ Carmen ”in 3D is a bright, exciting performance that demonstrates a fresh and innovative approach to an immortal classic, giving the impression of being in a theater”, comments Masaki Oshumi, President, Vice President and General Manager of Visual Products Company at Toshiba Corporation .
