Last.fm does not participate in the National Day of Silence?

As we already know , tomorrow many online radio stations will shut up to protest new royalty rates. The SaveNetRadio coalition includes such major services as MTV Online, Yahoo Launchcast, Pandora, and Live365. However, Last.fm is not on this list - CBS ( Last.fm owner ) decided not to join the “union in misfortune”.

To date, there was no official commentary from Last.fm about tomorrow, and there were no answers to the question in the corresponding forum thread either.

At first glance, it seems strange that Last.fm’s absence in the list of members of the SaveNetRadio coalition, as this radio station will also have to pay royalties. But CBS is an investor in TargetPoint, a company that provides targeted advertising to advertisers via Internet radio. Maybe this circumstance will allow CBS to get rid of the competition? Online radio stations CBS have a lot of money and a large number of advertisers, which is enough to cover the costs of the new scheme of deductions.

Regardless of the arguments that Last.fm does not take part in the National Day of Silence, the radio station runs the risk of a grievance reaction. Comments on unsatisfied Last.fm users have already appeared on the Web, who are going to refuse at all tomorrow from the services of this radio station, if it does not change their mind.
