For all the time of the existence of the “
Reading room ” blog, it never once mentioned a major work by Cory Doctorow, which is called “
The Younger Brother ”. It is time to correct this circumstance.
This book is a fascinating adventure novel (with elements of anarchic prose and cipherpunk), telling about modern teenagers from among the networked youth, who are entering into a secret struggle against the digital totalitarian government, against the system and atmosphere of universal surveillance and informing, against the increasing threat of increasing pressure and violence addressed by the state to its own citizens.
Perhaps, on this day, no other work would be more appropriate. After all, today, February 7, 2011, as it was said on Habrahabr the day before
([ 1 ], [
2 ]), the Russian government is beginning to control the Internet with many thousands of eyes and fingers of the “Kremlin trolls”, will spend millions of dollars on supervision and on changing discourse . There will be arrests, and the so-called “
demonstrative, bright processes, rough visible punishment ”. And we know that all this will justify the bloody drama that took place in Domodedovo, the need to combat child pornography, or
some other bogey like “extremism”.
