Jeopardy! - a quiz show popular on American television (or, in Russian, a quiz), in which participants need to answer questions from completely different fields - the exact sciences, pop culture, history, literature, and so on.
On February 14, Watson (Watson), a supercomputer created by scientists and engineers from IBM, will take part in this show. The two rivals of artificial intelligence will be Ken Jennings (the absolute champion of Jeopardy! In the history of the show) and Brad Rutter. Jennings won 74 games in a row, earned $ 2.5 million. Rutter won a smaller number of games, but is the champion in the amount of money earned - 3.5 million.
However, the training round of the game has already passed, in which the brainchild of IBM won, having received $ 4,400 (against $ 3,400 and $ 1,200 from Ken and Brae, respectively). The main part of the confrontation will take place on February 14.
The name of the supercomputer was given in honor of the legendary IBM president Thomas Watson.
According to representatives of IBM, the new computer is much more modern than the company's previous creation, the Deep Blue computer, which beat Garry Kasparov in chess in 1997.
During the game, Watson is not connected to the Internet, but a huge database is loaded into its memory, containing information from all fields, from history to mass media culture. The creators of the computer claim that he is also able to distinguish between literal and figurative meanings of words, metaphors and humor.
In case of winning the quiz, IBM will send all the funds won to charity, the real participants agreed to donate only half.
