Telecommunication device helps a sick teenager to study at school

In general, the headline does not reflect the essence of the news, which is really very interesting. The fact is that a boy with polycystic kidney disease instead of himself sends a school of telecommunications robot, which allows the boy to attend school, “walk” from class to class, listen to teachers, answer their questions, communicate with friends. In other words, the boy sees and hears everything that happens at school, and schoolchildren and teachers see and hear the boy, whose name is Lyndon Baty. Because of his illness, the boy is completely immune to immunity, which means that he cannot live fully - neither go out to the street, nor go to school. Until recently, he could not even dream of getting into a normal school, communicating with his peers, seeing and hearing everything that happens in the classroom, answering teacher's questions. Now he has such an opportunity.

Lyndon is now using Electronics, a special teleconferencing robot that is remotely controlled. The model of the robot is called Vgo, and it costs mere pennies compared to other similar models - only 5 thousand dollars. In general, other models of devices with similar functions can cost 3-5 times more expensive than Vgo. The device is quite simple, but it helps the teenager to “attend” the school. To control the robot requires only a laptop with a webcam and special software. The battery of the robot lasts for 8 hours of uninterrupted work, which is quite enough for the virtual presence of its owner at the school during all school hours.

Lyndon himself is very pleased with the opportunity to study in a regular school, and especially the opportunity to more or less normally communicate with his peers. “Until now, my parents were my best friends. Not that I had anything against them, but I want to have other friends. And now I feel like an ordinary student in a regular school, ”says Lyndon.

By the way, the original source also mentions a student from Russia suffering from leukemia who uses a similar robot for the same purpose - training in a regular educational institution and participation in the social life of an educational institution.

It is pleasant to hear that high technology can help a seriously ill person to live a full life.
