New statistics on the use of Android versions
show that Android 2.1 (Eclair), Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) are currently used in total for 89.8% of Android devices.
The figure, which grew by 7% compared to the
previous report , demonstrates Google’s efforts to reduce the fragmentation of its operating system due to slow actions by mobile operators.
According to data collected two weeks before February 2, Android 2.2 was installed on 57.6% of Android devices, Android 2.1 - 31.4%, Android 1.6 - 6.3%, and Android 1.5 - 3.9%. 1.6 and 1.5 are mainly used by those who do not know how to upgrade their devices, or their devices are already outdated and are no longer supported.

The growth in the share of Android 2.2 is noticeable - by 14.2% in two months - which indicates that manufacturers are gradually updating the operating system to their customers.
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is still used on a small percentage of devices (0.8%), since manufacturers are still putting the final touches on new smartphones that will be presented on February 14 at Mobile World Congress.
Obviously, Gingerbread will gain popularity in the coming months. So far it is supported only on the Nexus S, but after the MWC, a wave of new devices will flood the market.
