Chrome 9: Breakthrough in speed, support for 3D and web applications
Today, with the release of the 9th version of the Google Chrome browser, we are pleased to introduce new features that were previously present only in beta versions. These features include WebGL support, Live Search and the Chrome app store. WebGL is a new technology that brings support for hardware accelerated 3D graphics to browsers. With the advent of WebGL support in Chrome, you can start experimenting with quite serious 3D applications right in your browser, without having to install additional software. Do you have doubts about the possibilities offered by 3D graphics? Try our examples that illustrate the power of WebGL in the latest stable version of Chrome .
With the support of Live Search (Chrome Instant, a la Google Instant ), the pages that you often open will load as soon as you start typing their address (“Look, Mom, don't need to press the enter!”). If this is supported by your search engine, the search results will also load as the query is typed in the omnibox. To try Live Search, turn it on in the General tab of the browser options window.
In addition, the Chrome App Store ( Chrome Web Store ) is now available to all Chrome users in the United States. Therefore, we even carried a link to it to the “new tab” page along with examples of two simple applications (if you don’t need them, after a while they will disappear by themselves). ')
Recent apps added to the Store include BBC GoodFood , Autodesk , Sesame Street , 9 games from King.com and Marvel Comics . In addition, there are lots of applications that use the latest web technologies to make a deep impression, such as Tweetdeck and The New York Times . Although the App Store is currently only available in the United States, we are working to make it available to users worldwide, so stay with us!
