Convenient rescue DIY

Good day to all. I decided to describe my troubles in creating a more or less functional resuscitator, which will be always at hand.

I’ll make a reservation that I used to have a 16GB usb flash drive as a resuscitator, but the place was not enough.

I will describe how to do this briefly (Maloli, useful).

USB flash resuscitator

')
With the help of WinSetup, I formatted the flash drive by writing msdos boot files to it. Then I trimmed the boot partition and added the NTFS partition.
I added drivers and programs for dos to the boot partition (among other things, I installed ntfs4dos in order to have access to ntfs partitions from under DOS). Then I threw it on the grub4dos boot partition. I deleted the designated letter from the boot partition, in the hope that it will not be mounted in windows, which is infested with viruses more than other systems are susceptible to viruses. On the NTFS partition, the root directory was protected from writing using access rights (yes, the protection is dubious, but that's enough for me). How to do this, see my old post .

One of the advantages I want to note is that the first msdos is loaded from under which you can:
sys c:

chkdsk.exe

format.com

grub4dos.exe

alladin.exe :)

And by running grub4dos, we are able to download both BartPE and ErdCommander and Acronis and NortonGHOST, etc. etc.

Cons: There is not enough space, which is why there is no possibility to backup “patient” files.
A lot of space on my 16 GB flash drive was taken by images of various operating systems created by Acronis.

We are trying to repeat on ...

USB HDD 250 Gb

With the help of WinSetup, I formatted the flash drive by writing msdos boot files to it.

Immediately bummer. Does not want to format, complains about the large disk.

Well, it does not matter, we boot from the flash drive and without any programs make sys c: (or format c: / s).
Did not work out. In general, in two days I formatted my hdd once 350, and how many times I deleted / added partitions ...

Sometimes I thought that my hard kapets, because Neither Acronis DD, nor GParted, nor Partition Magick allowed to perform any operations with the disk, without giving clear information about the error.

What I just didn't do was fail. I got used to the idea that it will not work on IO.sys on hard disk and will have to write grub4dos in mbr, since WinSetup allows it (BOOTICE-> Process MBR). Then we put menu.lst in the root of the disk, where we describe what and from where to load. We throw images of resuscitators and various programs and rejoice.

Cons: there is no native DOS. Yes, it can be downloaded via grub, but then it doesn’t see local drives (why I don’t know who dedicates it). For me, this is strange, because the same Norton Ghost sees all the drives.

While I have not found a solution, I have combined both options: I am loading from the flash drive, and I store the system images for Acronis or Ghost on hdd.

I hope someone will be useful my fail.

I ask users to share their experience, maybe someone knows how to download msdos from a large usb hdd. I will be very grateful.
