DDoS attacks exceeded 100 Gbps

Arbor Networks network infrastructure specialists have published the sixth annual report of the Worldwide Infrastructure Security Report . This document contains a lot of interesting information (64 p.), But one of the main results of 2010 is emphasized - for the first time in the history of such measurements, the power of a single DDoS attack reached 100 Gbit / s, which is more than twice the figures for 2009 and ten times higher than 2005 figures.

According to experts, at present, the organization of DDoS-attacks has become as simple as ever: renting botnets has become much cheaper, and it is not difficult to get software to automate attacks.

Apparently, the situation will worsen in 2011. Arbor Networks predicts that new protocols and applications will be vulnerable to DDoS attacks. For example, in 2010, elements of the network infrastructure (DNS, VoIP and IPv6) were attacked. In the near future, individual Internet service providers, including mobile network operators, may become new victims.
