The picture above shows how small these SSD drives, whose capacity is 80 gigabytes (in the same form factor, a similar line of 40 GB SSD is also available). Intel 310 Series 80GB SSD are created, according to the developers, for laptops, and the company itself positions them as “the ability to resize laptops”. The first laptops with new SSD will be the new Lenovo Thinkpads. Their output is scheduled for early 2011.
The Intel 310 Series 80GB SSD is sold in small batches of 1000 units, priced at $ 99 for 40 GB units and 179 for 80 GB units. According to the plan, the new SSDs will be the beginning of the “SSD era”, when the buyer gets a laptop with an SSD, the volume of which is comparable to that of a regular HDD (of course, here the manufacturer embellishes a little reality - now the average HDD in a laptop is 250-320 GB). Perhaps these SSDs will be used in netbooks, where they are really needed.

Thessdreview guys have already managed to test new drives, and warn potential buyers - the fact is that these SSDs do not work with existing notebook models, despite the fact that they seem to be compatible with mini-PCIE adapters. Despite the fact that you can plug such a drive into a mini-PCIE adapter by connecting all of this to a laptop, it will not work.
Testers received these SSDs with special converters (the appearance and configuration of such converters are not specified), which allowed to test the operation of the Intel 310 Series 80GB SSD. For the new SSD to work, the laptop itself must have the appropriate configuration, so the acquisition of a new SSD does not make any sense. Of course, maybe there are masters who can make the appropriate adapters (it seems to me that the Chinese will succeed in this), but so far all this is in question. In general, the new SSD will only work with new laptops, “sharpened” for these drives.
