Roundup on Anonymous

The US, British, and European Union intelligence agencies, coordinated by the FBI, organized a simultaneous raid on members of the Anonymous group in different countries. In the UK, five people were arrested from 15 to 26 years old; over 40 searches were conducted in the United States. Investigative actions are also underway in Holland, Germany and France.

Trying to track one of the IRC servers, the FBI searched the Dallas Internet provider Tailor Made Services . Another IRC server was tracked to the Hurricane Electric provider (Fremont, Califonia).

Experts from the Pirate Party of Great Britain explain how young people can face participation in a DDoS attack. Apparently, they were arrested on charges of violating the Computer Misuse Act 1990 . According to experts, the use of DDoS-scripts like Low Orbit Ion Cannon for the purpose of deliberate damage may threaten with imprisonment for up to two years.

The FBI, in a press release, states that "organizing or participating in DDoS attacks is punishable by up to ten years in prison."

It seems that only Russian members of the Anonymous group can feel safe (and there are quite a few of them). In Russia, such repression against Internet activists is difficult to imagine for political and legal reasons.
