Facebook email and impressions

Literally two weeks ago, I read a post about the possibility of starting Facebook mail , but at that time most people still did not have this opportunity, including me. I asked for an invite, and this was stopped.

Today in the morning I discovered that mail was still activated, and according to friends, apparently already activated for the masses:

I decided, without shelving, to research it a little.

First, a small intro appears telling that it can work like a regular email:

Immediately try to write a letter to a foreign address:

As you can see, it became possible to attach files to the letter, though without the functions of drag-n-drop and multi-apload.
An interesting, but as yet untested option is to create a webcam photo or video on the fly that will immediately attach to the letter.

What was surprising was the absence of the “Letter subject” field, apparently Facebook considered that this was an unnecessary and outdated option.

And this is how the correspondence chain looks like, here you can also see the letter processing options:

As you can see, in the letters coming from outside, the subject of the letter is still visible, highlighted in bold. Letters from outside (from regular mail) can be distinguished only by a small envelope icon shown to the right of the message.

Emails sent from the Facebook box in external mailboxes (in particular, in Gmail) look normal and quite ordinary, with the exception of the above-mentioned letter subject.

Here, in fact, all the functionality so far, found in this similarity of mail. No labels and folders, no signatures to the letters. Alas, there was not even a forwarding function with which I can aggregate mail from several mailboxes on one gmail account.

In general, it seems to me that it still does not make sense to count on a serious confrontation between Facebook and Gmail mail, the notorious “Gmail killer” has not yet grown. For Facebook, this is more likely an addition to the communication service, a component of a social network. That great and convenient functionality of serious mail, in particular Gmail, for business correspondence and the ability to manage large streams of letters and their chains, is still unsurpassed.
