Third-generation cell phones offering, in addition to previous services, a poor Internet channel, in my opinion in the very near future will be supplanted by more modern technologies. I think wifi-phones, although it may be something newer, but certainly not the technology wimax, which fundamentally has the same problems as conventional cellular base stations. The issues mentioned are the ability to provide quality and! speed! Internet connection. More precisely, the capacity of the channel, which both these technologies can offer, directly depends on the number of base stations, which leads to very high costs both for real estate (the place where the station is located) and those supporting the equipment - hence the prices that we have for all this pleasure pay
Wifi technology initially allows for a wider channel. In principle, wifi has the same problems with real estate and those support. For example, Google’s attempts to “build” wifi-areas in some countries of the world have failed, because it is expensive.
However, today there are ideas to solve the last problem. At its core, the idea is simple; if the broom cannot be broken entirely, you can untie it and break each branch of the broom. It's about home wireless networks.
Today it is not too expensive to put a simple Wi-Fi station at home (I know the prices in the region of 50-100 bucks; I apologize, I don’t know their prices in the CIS). People who have a laptop can usually afford such luxury. Personally, I already can’t imagine life without a laptop with the Internet at hand ... where I haven’t been with my laptop ... In general, the need often arises from the opportunity ... because before they lived like that without cell phones, and today without them there is nowhere ...

So, over the past year, several companies have appeared on the market offering to share their wireless internet with others in one way or another. In one of such a company your humble servant works. About all the companies of this kind known to me can be read
here and
here .
Having created this kind of network, we will gradually come to the fact that wherever you go, there is Wi-Fi internet ... and there are free Skype calls or something else.
And now the moment has come when I can ask my question ...
What is the future of cellular providers if all this happens?
