Tuomas Rasila is the founder of Norfello, a software company of 17 people in Finland. The main product of Norfello is DocScanner, a scanning application running on iPhone, Android, Mac and S60. The program automatically converts photos of flat surfaces, such as paper documents or wall boards, to PDF documents. Below we publish the story of Tuomas about his experience of integrating the application with Evernote.

I met the Evernote team in September 2009. I then just arrived in California's Mountain View from Finland and accidentally stumbled upon Alex Pachikov ( vice president of business development Evernote - approx. Lane ) in a local Irish pub. We started talking about technology, and it turned out that we know about each other through our products. Evernote was already popular in 2009, but I was surprised that people from Evernote had heard of DocScanner.

The significance of integration with Evernote

The importance of integration with the Evernote service has become obvious to us since the first release of DocScanner. Our users asked for it constantly, and we ourselves understood that it made sense. The day after the meeting with Alex, we started working on the integration of Evernote and DocScanner for iPhone. Soon after, the first DocScanner release appeared, working with the service.

Over the next few weeks, our sales increased dramatically. Almost instantly, we began selling DocScanner in the amount of $ 100,000 monthly. Since then, we have added Evernote integration to our Android and Mac apps. Now we are also working on supporting the service in our S60 program, as well as in additional products, where we could use the advantages of the Evernote platform.

Work with Evernote

Working with Evernote was a great experience for the DocScanner team. The guys from Evernote helped us in the event of any difficulties, their API was well documented, and their service worked like a clock. The launch of the Evernote Gallery last year well demonstrated the desire of Evernote to tell its users about partner applications.

The most important thing is that Evernote brings additional functionality, allowing you to make users more satisfied. DocScanner does not duplicate the capabilities of Evernote. We can focus on image processing, and Evernote helps our users download, save, and subsequently find scanned documents. The data placed in the "cloud" are much more convenient and valuable for our users than the file on their smartphone or memory card.

Thinking about the future, we see great potential in products that are able to automatically recognize and organize unstructured data, such as photographs of business cards. Each of the millions of users of Evernote is a potential consumer of the service that would help make their saved memories more structured.

Evernote Ecosystem

There are already many partners in the Evernote Gallery, and in the future there will be even more. The Evernote Ecosystem creates optimal conditions for storing unstructured data, such as text notes, audio recordings, and images. If your application provides for the collection of any content or its automatic structuring, you definitely will not interfere with the integration with Evernote.
