The Public Opinion Foundation regularly publishes quite interesting materials, more precisely reports containing a lot of statistical information of various kinds. This time, the foundation published the results of a study conducted from November to December 2010 concerning the penetration rate of the “mobile” Internet in Russia. In other words, the foundation's experts tried to find out how actively the owners of mobile devices are connecting to the Network using their devices. It turned out that every third resident of the Russian Federation, who can be considered an Internet user and who is over 12, has been using a cell phone to connect to the Network. At the moment, about 57 million people in Russia are Internet users.
At the same time, the "real" Internet users, that is, users who go online at least once a day, are about 40 million people. Agree, quite an interesting indicator. Of course, in large cities of Internet users there are much more Internet users than in the regions. For example, in small towns, 28 percent of residents can be considered Internet users. But in the cities this figure is incomparably higher - here Internet users account for as much as 60%, in relation to the total number of residents.
If we take the age category from 12 to 35 years, here 75% of the total number of representatives of this age group can be considered Internet users. Here the share of broadband and mobile connectivity to the web is approximately 50/50. In the older age category of Internet users, only 20-25% of the total number of residents of the Russian Federation, which can be attributed to this group.

Another interesting indicator is the number of mobile phone owners. Those in Russia about 88% of the total population. True, of these 88% most are regular phones. Any different advanced gadgets, like communicators, there are only 9% of the total number of devices. It is worth noting that Nokia and Samsung are the most popular brands of mobile devices among residents of the Russian Federation.
Experts from FOM conclude that so far the mobile Internet remains secondary to the “adult” Internet. It is mainly used either for the sake of entertainment, or when another type of access to the Web is not possible to use.
