Android OS in the car

Car radio from the French company Parrot - perhaps the first case of the implementation of automotive electronics on the Android OS platform.



The device called Asteroid can be called a tape recorder only in format. In fact, it is a portable computer with a three-inch TFT screen on which you can not only listen to the radio, but also play Angry Birds or launch other applications, including automotive, for example, car navigator, a guide to the nearest gas stations with prices or a map of the city with speed video cameras.

The back side of the recorder resembles the system unit of an ordinary PC.



Functionality: receiving phone calls, phone book, settings, music management in the mode of a conventional radio tape recorder (pause, rewind, etc.), firmware update via USB, compatibility with iPod, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR, GPS.

Asteroid was presented at the just-concluded CES. The device has not yet gone on sale and its price is unknown. The possibilities of a new generation car radio are shown in this promotional video.



They say sales in Europe will begin in the II quarter. 2011
