You may have noticed that we experimented with a new YouTube homepage. After countless research on user preferences and community polls, one thing became clear: the main page in its current form means nothing to most of you and can be more personalized. Thus, the purpose of this experiment was to pay more attention to the “video for you”.
To start this experiment, we removed some of the less used modules, such as Now Watching. Then we moved such modules as “Video in the spotlight” and “Best video” to the right side. All these changes were made to make room for a consolidated list of videos specifically for you, based on recommendations for you, your subscriptions, and videos shared by your friends.
We recently opened an experimental homepage for those who would like to try it. Millions of users have included it, and now they have this new version installed as the main page. Many who tried the experimental page wrote reviews. Although not everyone liked it, most people felt that the new home page was better than the old one.
Here are some of the improvements offered on the new main page (for authorized users only):
- Most of the attention is paid to those videos that matter to you (subscriptions, videos distributed by friends, recommendations);
- You can easily customize the page to show only the latest downloads in your subscriptions.
- you won't miss anything - if four videos are added to the channel per day, you will see all four - and not just the last video;
- quick access to your inbox when you have new messages or comments;
- the videos you watched are grayed out;
- the ability to remove any video (hover and press the "x" button).
Although some of you may not notice some features, we believe that the latest version is a step in the right direction. It is simpler, more personalized, and with its help it is easier to track and watch a video that is interesting to you. So we are launching this new home page for all registered users worldwide.
