Array HP P4000 can now work as a NAS-server

The new year in the HP StorageWorks P4000 family of disk arrays (formerly LeftHand) began with the advent of a NAS gateway with the long name HP StorageWorks P4000 Unified NAS Gateway.

As you know, LeftHand arrays are storage systems for SANs based on iSCSI technology that work with data at the block level. The new gateway turns the array into a universal storage system that serves server applications (for example, SQL Server databases), and at the same time works as a file server on which users can store their files. Depending on the configuration, the gateway can serve from 100 to 3300 users. In addition, the gateway can be used as a print server.

Inside the HP StorageWorks P4000 Unified NAS Gateway hides the well-known two-socket HP ProLiant DL360 G7 server rack based on six-core Intel Xeon 5650. Because of this, it has a gigabit network adapter, two hard drives and RAM up to 32 GB.

The operating system of the gateway is Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition x64. This OS recently implemented file classification (File Infrastructure Classification) and accelerated access to Hosted Branch Cache applications in the central office.

The gateway, like the standard HP ProLiant DL360 G7, supports all iLO3 remote management and monitoring functions. For greater reliability, you can use a cluster configuration of a dual HP ProLiant DL360 G7 gateway running under the Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) package, licensed for the HP StorageWorks P4000 Unified NAS Gateway.
