4 Russian CMS entered the world top

The project W3Techs of the Austrian company Q-Success Web-based Services collects statistics on the use of web technologies. The sample is a million of the most popular sites according to Alexa (more on the methodology here , in English). In addition to operating systems, web servers, etc., there is a report on site management systems. According to the study, in the list of forty-six site management systems (with a share of at least 0.1%), four products were produced in Russia.

The seventh place with a share of 1.9% is DataLife Engine , ahead of many famous systems. Bitrix holds the thirteenth place with a share of 0.8% - by the way, the highest place among commercial products (DLE is formally also commercial, but according to some data most of its installations are not entirely commercial). uCoz and NetCat are located at 35 and 46 places, with a share of about 0.1%. The total share of Russian CMS is 2.9%.

However, it is necessary to clarify that the shares are indicated only among that part of the million most popular sites where circulation CMS were found (24%). Also, the results are certainly influenced by the fact that the list of products includes, for example, the blog service Blogger.com, forum engines vBulletin and phpBB, which are not formally site management systems.

It is interesting how the situation differs from the similar statistics on Runet collected by iTrack (it uses a similar methodology, polling all second-level domains in the ru zone). For obvious reasons, all Russian CMSs have a much larger share in Russia (about 31% in all), but the picture differs greatly among foreign products:

In Runet WordPress and Joomla! have almost the same shares, while on the global Internet WordPress is ahead of Joomla! five times. In my opinion, this is due not to any particular specifics of Russia, but to the conditions of the sample. The iTrack survey covers all sites in the ru zone; it is obvious that among them there will be a much higher proportion of corporate sites (to which Joomla! is more targeted). Blogs (to which, despite their versatility, WordPress is more oriented) are a priori more popular, and their share in the “top million” sites should be much higher. However, it is not possible to verify this assumption: the viewing of a million of the most popular sites is laborious.

It is also interesting that Drupal in Russia takes the sixth place against the third in the world, but MODx, on the contrary, is much more popular.

By the way, the Nginx web server created by Russian Igor Sysoev takes the third place . LiveInternet ranks second in the list of statistics collection services. Domain ru - the fifth , of the geographical domains is inferior only to the domain de. Russian is also the fifth most popular language.
