Q: How will Appcelerator Titanium and Aptana Studio be integrated?A: Appcelerator plans to make a preview of Titanium, integrated with Aptana in March 2011. The preview release will focus on frequently requested features, including JavaScript debugging and auto-completion code.
Q: Will Aptana Studio remain free (free)?A: Yes.
Q: Will Aptana Studio be mobile only?A: No, Appcelerator plans to create a product that allows web developers to write for three platforms at once: web, desktop and mobile platforms
Q: Will Appcelerator support for server programming languages (PHP, Ruby / Rails & Python)?A: Of course. We believe that the development of server applications is an important component for the development of cloud directions. In more detail this area will be announced in the 1st quarter.
Q: What will happen to the name "Aptana"?A: Aptana is a valuable brand. Appcelerator is considering the use of the Aptana brand, a more detailed strategy will be announced during the March preview release.
Q: Will Aptana Studio open source?A: Appcelerator practices dual, open-source / commercial licensing. The Titanium platform is open source, and premium technology components are provided as commercial solutions. Q: What is the status of RadRails, Pydev & Jaxer?A: RadRails, a development tool for Ruby on Rails, and Pydev, a development tool for Python and Django will be in active development. And integrated into Aptana Studio 3.0. The beta version of Studio 3 is available from the Aptana site (http://aptana.com/).
For Jaxer, the JavaScript server continues to provide tech support. At the moment, Appcelerator is considering the fate of Jaxer and will announce the decision within the next few months. (IMHO, the answer will be "no")
Q: Will the development of any Aptana or Appcelerator products be stopped?A: Appcelerator will announce the strategy at the end of Q1.
