Statistics: Half of US Adult Internet Users Work with Wikipedia

Yes, Wikipedia really turned 10 years old , and this grandiose information project has already managed to gain immense popularity. Unfortunately, no research has yet been conducted that could show which age categories of Internet users around the world work most actively with Wikipedia (or I simply have not heard of such studies). However, there is a study on a single country. Which one It is easy to guess, this is the USA. It is here that the brainchild of Jimmy Wales works more than 50% of the adult population belonging to the category of Internet users.

53% of adult “online Americans” regularly use information from Wikipedia. In principle, the number of new users is not growing as fast as at the beginning of the project, but the trends are still impressive. For example, in February 2007, Wikipedia was used by 36% of adult US Internet users, and in May of this year this figure rose to 53%.

As for the breakdown by age categories, in the category up to 30 years about 62% of US Internet users work with Wikipedia, but this is quite a predictable figure. It is pleasantly surprising that among Americans over the age of 65, Wikipedia uses 33% of grandparents, who are also classified as Internet users.

Among Internet users of the age group of 30-49 years old, 52% of US residents work with Wikipedia. Well, finally, 49% of Internet users in the United States, aged 50-64 years, work with this resource.

It is clear that among college students the percentage of “Wikipedists” is maximum - 69% of Internet users studying in college regularly seek informational assistance from Wikipedia.

The study also indicates that Wikipeadia is more popular among US Internet users than instant messengers, but less popular than social networks, which work around 61% of adult US Internet users.

In principle, the study is quite indicative, although it was conducted in America. It would be interesting to know whether similar studies were conducted for the CIS countries, and if so, what are their results ...
