Ten years ago, on January 15, 2001, Wikipedia was officially opened as a single English-language section on wikipedia.com.
Today Wikipedia contains more than 17 million articles written by tens of millions of its participants. This is the fifth most popular site on the Internet, and the only one in the top 25, which is a completely non-commercial service supported by a non-profit organization.
Wikipedia has the largest collection of information in human history. And it can be used freely, and there is no advertising in it.

wrote , Wikipedia was one of the indecent little secrets of our culture in the early years of its existence: everyone used it, but few dared admit it. Today, journalists, educators and cultural critics are finally taking Wikipedia seriously, recognizing that its advantages far outweigh its disadvantages.
Today is the holiday of all who created this amazing project. Holiday developers writing code. Celebration of people who write articles, correct errors, localize software, respond to users' letters and fight vandals. Those who donated money for the development of the project.
Happy Birthday, Wikipedia!
