ICANN opened the .jobs zone

This year, the confrontation between the .jobs domain zone administrator, Employ Media LLC, and the association of the largest US websites that publish vacancy announcements and resumes (Association of Employment Web Sites) ended. The association includes, for example, the resource monster.com, which helps to find work in many countries of the world, or to find an employee.

The cause of the conflict is simple - the administrator of the .jobs domain zone applied to ICANN with a request to allow everyone to register domains in the .jobs zone. The fact is that the .jobs zone, registered back in 2006, was open only to companies that wish to create their own website with the publication of announcements about vacancies. For example, asda.jobs is a site where vacancies are published in the asda supermarket chain (United Kingdom).

In 2010, Employ Media LLC decided to allow third parties and companies that would like, for example, to open their own job site to register domains in this zone. At the suggestion of the Employ Media LLC management, this way it would be possible to create employment websites for any city in the world, Chicago.jobs, for example, and registering hundreds of thousands of new domains in this zone would bring profit to the zone administrator.

At the same time, the Association of the largest sites for employment, the Association of Employment Web Sites, was against the introduction of this proposal. The reason is clear - in the case of the opening of the .jobs zone, a lot of new employment sites would appear that would be a strong competitor to the sites from the Association.

In the end, ICANN approved the opening of the .jobs zone. It happened at the end of 2010. Already this year a large project of the DirectEmployers Association company was launched, called Universe.jobs. The project registered hundreds (and possibly thousands) of domains in the .jobs zone, with names including the names of countries and cities. On the interactive map, located on the main page of the project, you can select any region, and one of the employment sites, containing job offers in the region (for example, usa.jobs or rus.jobs).

It is clear that this project is one of the first new projects that use the possibility of open registration in the zone .jobs.

Note that the cost of registering a domain in the .jobs zone is $ 119.99 per year (GoDaddy).
