One of the most famous (and most successful) bloggers, Steve Pavlina, announced the closure of his personal page on Facebook.
This act is caused by the inconvenience of administering a highly visited account and a large amount of various spam.
Steve makes the following comments to the service:
The inability to add more than 5,000 friends, which was not enough for the account of a famous blogger.
The inconvenience associated with the various administration interfaces of the personal page and the fan account page.
Large amount of spam.
The inability of the account owner to block access to specific users to their page.
The inability to disable some of the default subscription notifications (in particular, event notifications).
The lack of response of the administration to user complaints on emerging issues.
Steve makes an assumption about the deliberate reluctance of the administration to limit spam activity associated with the company's general course to increase all sorts of interactions between users, despite the fact that often this is used by numerous spammers. ')
He's writing:
Facebook’s business model is based on making you spend more time on their website. Combined with some other observations that I noticed, supporting very active pages on their website, the conclusion is that these errors were intentionally made. For most users, they create not enough problems to force them to leave the service, but enough to make them spend a little more time on it. A single spam message looks like an accident if it appears once or twice a year, but it forces you to go to the site where you, thanks to advertising, provide Facebook with income. Multiply one seemingly random message by 500 million users and see that it looks very profitable.
And in conclusion - an apology to the army of their fans (Facebook-friends):
I have reached the threshold when Facebook’s problems began to override their benefits. I decided that it would be best to just drop everything and start wasting that time on something else. If you are one of those who actively communicated with me on Facebook, and you were upset by my decision, I apologize. Anyway, whatever happens is for the best.
