DPR domain zone returns to the Internet

North Korea (aka the DPRK) has recently been taking a lot of action to infuse the global Internet. So, on the eve of finally became available some domains of this country (.kp). For a long time, North Korean sites were accessible only by IP addresses.

Now you can visit:
Portal of the Pyongyang Computer Center (multilingual): www.naenara.com.kp
The website of the Committee on Cultural Relations with Other Countries (which, I must say, performs a lot of external functions of the country): www.friend.com.kp
Central Korean News Agency (state portal): www.star.edu.kp.

DPRK domain names are functioning for the first time in the last few months. .Kp domain zone was created in 2007; the development and management was carried out under the supervision of a certain German company, but in 2010, unexpectedly, all the domains of North Korea were unavailable. The reasons are still unknown.

Domain name servers are owned by the Star JV operator. This is a telecommunications company created with the participation of the North Korean government and the Thai company Loxley Pasific.
Fast research has revealed that in addition to the previously available second-level domains, com.kp and edu.kp, the following were registered: net.kp, gov.kp, org.kp, rep.kp, tra.kp and co.kp.

The authorities of North Korea do not allow most of the population to have access to the Internet, so even such a small activity (the return of the domain zone, the registration of several new domains and three whole working sites) is already a huge manifestation of North Korea’s desire to be present on the Internet.

This event could cause unrest in the government of South Korea. As you know, the two countries are officially in a state of war, and the South Korean authorities are blocking access to any web resources, at least slightly hinting at sympathy for the DPRK. For example, according to a Yonhap News report, a man was arrested in Seoul on Monday who was accused of posting more than a hundred messages and videos praising North Korea on the Internet (from October 2009 to December 2010).

This happened shortly after another incident: Uriminzokkiri.com (posting information about North Korea) was hacked (along with their twitter and YouTube channels at the same time), and materials were posted that defamed the current North Korean leader and his son.

Here they are, political cyber war.
