Universal Music Group has
announced donations to the Library of Congress for more than 200,000 records of the early 20th century. Records will be cataloged and digitized.
The collection includes recordings by artists such as Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Tommy Dorsey, Billie Holiday, Andrews sisters, Connie Boswell, Jimmy Dorsey, Mills brothers, Guy Lombardo, Ella Fitzgerald, Fred Waring, Judy Garland and Dina Washington.

The library will make collection entries publicly available on a site that will be launched in the spring.
Apparently, Universal will not transfer intellectual property rights, but in any case, it’s already good that the original records will be in the hands of an organization that can keep them.
