In September, when we
launched the link shortening service, there was not yet a companion API for it to allow people to integrate
goo.gl into their applications and web pages. However, as we said, we are working on it, and today we are glad to inform you that we have launched the full-fledged goo.gl API available in
Google Code Labs .
The documentation is located on the Google Code site, with code examples in the
Getting Started section.
With this API, developers can programmatically access all the fast, smooth sweets that are accessible via the web interface. You can shorten and expand URLs using the API, as well as get history and analytics. You can use these features for a wide range of applications, ranging from automatically reducing links to Twitter or Google Buzz clients by starting the process of monitoring statistics and traffic data. For starters, you can familiarize yourself with
the Google API console .
We are very pleased to be able to provide you with our API for accessing
one of the fastest link shortening services . We continue to work on some usability improvements and the ability to automatically detect spam or malicious content. We hope that with the new API, you will find a place for goo.gl in your future activities. If you are a developer, check out the
goo.gl API documentation and see how it all works.
