You have probably heard about clocks that count down the time remaining until the end of our civilization. These “clocks”, called Doomsday Clock, were created by scientists to help humanity understand how close we are all from disaster, the threat of the destruction of everything we are accustomed to. This is a very interesting idea that prompted some IT professionals to create a Doomsday Clock for the Internet, or rather, a counter for spam pages that appear every second by the thousands on the Web. The counter is called
Spam Clock .
The developers of Spam Clock believe that the Internet as a whole will exist in its current form for not so long. The main threat to the World Wide Web, according to the development team, is spammers. It is their fault that now, out of 10 emails, nine are spam. On the Web, the situation is not much better, since millions of pages are being created that do not contain useful information, but were created to attract visitors through search engines. This and doorway pages, and just advertising pages, and other resources of this kind.
')
The creators of Spam Clock offer to imagine a situation where we, searching for something on the Web, cannot find anything other than spam, advertising, or both. Now it is often difficult to find something because of the abundance of fraudulent pages designed to attract users through search engines, and forcing those to click on advertising links that bring money to attackers. And the situation is getting worse with every second.
For example, since January 1 of this year, more than 180 million spam pages have appeared on the Web, which litter the Global Network so much that it becomes a really dangerous problem.
Unfortunately, it is not entirely clear where the spam counter takes data on spam pages, but I want to believe that Spam Clock is not just a java script that constantly adds and adds tsiferki. In principle, the creators of this counter recently launched a new search engine,
Blekko (not based on the Google platform), so I want to believe that they were able to create a really up-to-date spam counter.
In any case, the project is not valuable in itself, but because the guys are trying to attract the attention of web users to the problem of spam.
