Free digital signature for open drivers

Now, any open source project that develops a driver for Windows, thanks to the ReactOS Foundation, can sign its driver for free .

Signing for 32-bit drivers is something recommended, because it ensures that the driver is safe and no one has root-rootbed it. Signing up for 64-bit drivers is a MUST, newer versions of Windows do not allow an unsigned driver to be executed, so open source projects have to pay considerable sums to sign their drivers. Usually a license can cost $ 2,000 per year, so this is a good savings for open source projects.

ReactOS Foundation is an organization that deals with legal issues of the project and owns trademarks and logos associated with ReactOS. The Foundation was founded several years ago and is located in Moscow, and two recent achievements have helped broaden the vision of its legitimacy.

The first achievement was the approval of ReactOS as a registered trademark in Russia owned by the Foundation. This means that the Foundation has taken a much stronger legal position, which is needed to stop the unauthorized use of the word ReactOS, which, as many remember, is no longer a trifle, given recent events.

The second achievement is that the ReactOS Foundation has a VeriSign certificate for signing code, and it can be used to sign 64-bit drivers for Windows. The Foundation is ready to assist other open source projects that want to distribute their own 64-bit drivers, but are not able to purchase a certificate to sign them.

However, this offer is subject to the following conditions:

1. The fund will only sign open source drivers.
2. The Foundation will independently collect the driver for signing from the source code. We will not accept the already compiled “black box”. This means that all the source codes and tools needed to build the driver must be available to the Foundation.
3. The driver should not be used to bypass security systems in the OS. This also includes attempts to hack DRM features, such as security processes.
4. The driver should not be used to participate in other illegal activities.
5. Somewhere on the project / product page there should be a link to the ReactOS home page. It is desirable that it be located where it will be easy to find.

The Foundation reserves the right to refuse to sign the driver, even if the above conditions are met. All requests must be sent to Ziliang Guo (ziliang.guo at reactos.org).
