Familiar make a series of materials about how that works. So we got to the data center, and I asked permission to place an infographic here with their explanation. How do you?

Explanation of the picture:
“Meet this data center.
As you have probably noticed, this is not just a closet with a couple of servers and a bearded admin in a sweater to boot. Modern data processing centers are complex complexes, the vital functions of which have to be provided to various services and systems.

From the most obvious: data storage, backup and guaranteed power supply . Imagine how much information there is, and what will happen to it in case of a sudden drop in voltage and the absence of backups?

There are also information security systems, automatic fire extinguishing monitoring and video surveillance - safe, as they say ... well, then you yourself will know.

However, relying on robots alone would be a very rash step, so there is always a technical support service in a good data center. And if people work at the facility (well, or specially trained bearded gnomes in some cases), then their comfort is provided by the lighting, air conditioning and ventilation systems .

That's how the average data center works.

The data centers themselves are usually of two types: corporate and commercial .

With the first, everything is quite obvious: they serve the interests and needs of only the company to which they belong.

Commercial data centers, in turn, also come in two forms. Both those and others lend their power to various companies, and if operator- independent there are no restrictions on the composition of their customers, the carrier data centers most often belong to specific telecom operators, and are not allowed to compete. Which, however, does not prevent them from providing secondary services for the placement of equipment, communication channels and Internet access to other companies. ”
