Inkjet printers lie about ink consumption

One of the largest manufacturers of printing equipment - the company Epson - initiated a study, the results of which indicate more than half the loss in ink on each "waste" cartridge. A signal of an empty cartridge almost always serves as a push to order a new batch of consumables. But in fact, in most cases, printers lie to us. In the most impudent way.

For a study conducted by TĂśV Rheinland , the products of such companies as Lexmark, Canon, HP, Kodak, Brother and Epson itself were chosen. Tests were carried out for both single-color cartridges and color ink containing from three to five different ink colors. To get the results, the researchers measured the weights of the cartridges. The first - with a full set of ink, the second - after the printer signal "out of ink". I'm not sure that such an approach to research can be considered as serious and conscientious as possible, but there is still some truth.

It is not surprising that the best results were shown by Epson printers (the initiator of the study, as in any way): 80% of ink was used; ruined - only 20%. The worst figure belongs to Kodak EasyShare 5300 printer, whose “product transfer” rate was 64%. It turns out that this inkjet uses the cartridge only one third. The devices of the other test participants showed an average of 50% ink usage results. The situation looks very gloomy, if we take into account the color cartridges, as they “fail” when they run out of ink of the same color (blue, for example).

Based on the results of this, for the most part marketing research, Epson unleashed another large-scale war to retain its leading position in the market of printing devices. The main trumps Epson - one-color cartridges (each color - your own, and not three or five in one) and the already mentioned indicators of maximum, 80 percent use of ink. Than not less eminent competitors will answer?
