Firefox has shifted IE from first place in Europe

In December, a significant event for the browser world took place: Internet Explorer lost its first place in Europe. According to StatCounter for December, the number of Firefox users was 38.11%, and IE - 37.52%.

As stated by the head of StatCounter Edan Cullen (Aodhan Cullen), the reason for this was not the growing popularity of Firefox, but a decrease in the number of IE users. Including due to the transition of some of them to Chrome.

Chrome still occupies the 3rd position in Europe, but has a good growth rate. From 5.06% in December 2009 to 14.58% in December 2010.

Cullen also said that these results were influenced by Microsoft’s March coercion to provide Windows browser choices in the European Union.

Internet Explorer is still the market leader in North America with 48.92% of users, followed by Firefox with 26.7%, Chrome with 12.82% and Safari with 10.16%.
