Every new year, Intel traditionally begins with the announcement of a new line of processors ... and, you guessed it, this year was no exception. January 6 at the
international exhibition Consumer Electronic Show (CES 2011) in Las Vegas will be the official opening of the second generation of Core processors, codenamed
Sandy Bridge .
Key points :
')

New processors will be in all families - Core i3, i5 and i7.

The very first light will see quad-core processors for laptops - they should appear already on January 9th. These are high-performance systems from manufacturers such as HP and Dell. Dual-core systems will appear no earlier than February.

Improved energy efficiency thanks to a new 32-nanometer process technology;

Improved
Turbo Boost 2.0 technology , intellectually “overclocking” the processor for some types of tasks, avoiding its overheating;

Updated and much faster
Intel HD graphics system - now the graphics core is located immediately on the chip, which makes the entire processor even faster and more energy efficient;

Built-in hardware accelerated video encoding;
If the Nehalem microarchitecture processors, produced by the 32nm process, the graphics core was produced using the 45nm technology and packaged in a single case, then in Sandy Bridge the graphics processor is placed on the same silicon substrate with the central processor, which means that -nanometer process. With this solution, it became possible to "squeeze" more of the technology Intel Turbo Boost.

The new version of the technology
Intel Wireless Display , which allows to transfer full-size FullHD-video over TVs and projectors over the wireless interface. Stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray video playback via HDMI 1.4 thanks to
Intel InTru 3D technology.

Another surprising news is connected with WiDi and Core processors: Intel plans to introduce
Intel Insider service, which allows owners of computers based on Core processors to buy high-definition movies and video (1080p) from well-known content providers - it is already known that contracts have been signed with
CinemaNow and
Warner Brothers . It is assumed that, due to the hardware protection mechanisms built into the technology, it will be possible to buy new items simultaneously with their entry into the Blu-ray and DVD market.
“
This technology will give users access to high-definition content, such as movies, ” comments
Tom Kilroy , vice president of Intel and head of marketing and sales around the world, commenting on the new service. “
We agreed with the studios, so you’ll see the Warner Brothers and Fox programs already at the launch of Sandy Bridge, then a few more studios will follow. They are eagerly joining our platform for distributing high-quality Internet content to the end user. In fact, Intel Insider provides personal computers with mechanisms for distributing digital content, which will be provided by various manufacturers and retail chains like Best Buy. We’ve embedded hardware content protection into the Intel Insider platform, so the rights of the owners will be preserved . ”

Despite the fact that the new silicon plate has already visited the Moscow office of the company, so far there is no possibility to publish in the official blog all that I would like to say about the updates. We will try to keep you informed, but if there is interest, the advice is simple - you can use the search now.

Particularly inquisitive can read (in English) the
history of the origin of the code name Sandy Bridge , as well as
interviews with one of its creators .

We also remind you that the
contest for MeeGo is in full swing.
