History of ABBYY Lingvo. Four-zero

Unlike Lingvo 3.0 , which exists only in the form of five-inch unreadable floppy disks and user manuals, the fourth lingua is more fortunate :)

So, Lingvo 4.0, 1993 release, works under DOS and Windows.

Installation:

1. Download self-extracting archive .
2. Run it - it will be unpacked in C: \ LINGVO4 (first make sure that you don’t have such a directory on the C drive :)).

The Windows version runs through the WLINGVO.EXE file.

Running DOS version:

1. Run the command prompt (Start> Run> cmd) or Far.
2. Type c: \ lingvo4 \ lingvo.com
3. To open the dictionary, press CTRL + G.

Features DOS-version:

1. The windows of the program are closed "in the way of Mac" (in the upper left corner)
   
   
   
   
2. There is a “translation of the word from the screen” - to translate, you need to click the word on the screen!
   
   
   
   
3. There is a configuration tool CONFIG.COM, which allows you to customize almost everything, including the type of monitor (color, black and white, monochrome composite, monochrome TTL), as well as the colors of all interface elements :)
   
   
   
   
4. You can create your own dictionaries (folder DIC). We have made a small test dictionary EXAMPLE. Open DIC \ EXAMPLE.DSL encoded in "Cyrillic (DOS)", for example using MS Word. There are examples of how to create articles with links, etc. New entries can be added to this dictionary. After that compile the dictionary - run EXAMPLE.BAT.
